Back and Neck Pain

Many people are affected by acute or chronic back or neck pain.  These conditions can severely impact the ability to perform normal daily activities as well a person’s quality of life.

Physical therapy is a common treatment for neck and back pain.  After an evaluation to determine the cause of your pain, we will design an individualized program to help reduce your pain, promote healing, and improve your mobility.  We will provide education about your condition as well as discuss possible causes.  This may include posture improvement, changes to your work station, and back education.  Therapeutic exercises, including a home program, are important to improve your strength and prevent re-injury.

Soft Tissue and Overuse Injuries

These injuries can be due to sports injuries, work activities, or daily activities at home.  We work with you to determine the cause of the injury, reduce pain and inflammation, and begin the healing process.  We also work to educate you to prevent recurring injuries.

Some commonly treated injuries include Achilles Tendinosis (ankle pain), Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (wrist pain), Cervical Sprain/Strain (neck pain), Lateral Epicondylosis (tennis elbow), Lumbar Sprain/Strain (back pain), Medial Epicondylosis (golfer’s elbow), Trochanteric Bursitis (hip pain),  Patellofemoral disorder (knee pain), Plantar Fasciosis (foot pain), Rotator Cuff Tendinosis (shoulder pain), Scar Tissue, and Shin Splints.

Our goal is to get you healed so that you can return to your normal active lifestyle.

Orthopedics

We have many years of experience in orthopedics, the branch of medicine concerned with the musculoskeletal system.  This includes treating injuries to muscles, bones, joints, ligaments, and tendons.

With the use of evidence-based therapy, a combination of hands-on manual therapy and modalities, we work to get you pain-free and back to your normal level of activity as quickly as possible.

Pre and Post Surgery

When surgery is required, physical therapy is a very important part of the recovery.  Physical therapy before your surgery is beneficial to help you prepare for the upcoming surgery by providing patient and family/caregiver education, pre-surgery exercises, and home or office modification.  We will work with your surgeon and physician as a team to determine the most effective plan of care after surgery.

Our goal is to help you eliminate pain, increase range of motion, and improve strength and mobility, so that you can return to a normal active lifestyle as quickly as possible without recurring problems.

Astym Treatment

Astym® therapy is so effective because it was scientifically developed to target the actual cause of the pain rather than just the symptoms. Years of scientific and clinical research conducted at leading universities and hospital systems resulted in Astym® therapy, which now routinely resolves injuries that were previously thought to be permanent. Astym® therapy is unmatched in its ability to resolve tendinopathies, scar tissue problems, and other soft tissue dysfunctions.

Astym® therapy works quickly: A typical course of treatment lasts only four to six weeks (8-10 visits).  You get to stay active: During Astym® therapy you are actually encouraged to continue normal activities. You can still go to work and stay in your sport or favorite activity without having to take time off from your life while you recover.  It’s non-invasive: No needles, no incisions.

Balance and Gait

Among older adults, falls are the leading cause of injury deaths, unintentional injuries, and hospital admissions for trauma.  Falls can cause decreased mobility and independence, as well as increase the risk of premature death.  Research has shown that physical therapy can greatly reduce the occurrence of falls, as well as improve confidence and independence.

Falls can be a problem in younger populations as well.  People with recent surgery, head injury, stroke or other neurological problems, Parkinson’s, diabetic neuropathy, or vestibular (inner ear) dysfunction may also be at risk for falling.

We begin by performing a fall risk assessment, then we develop an individualized program to retrain the balance system, improve strength and endurance, and provide education to prevent falls and improve home safety.

Prevention and Wellness Care

Many of our patients return to us after their initial program of physical therapy has concluded to participate in regular prevention and wellness care.

This is an effective way to stay healthy and prevent recurring injuries.  It is also effective to assist people with chronic conditions, and it can be a component of a healthy aging program.

Functional Employment Testing

We offer employer services including WorkSTEPS Post-Offer Functional Employment Testing, Fit for Duty Testing, and drug testing.  WorkSTEPS Pre-Employment Post-Offer Functional Employment Testing is designed and administered to help the employer determine if a candidate is capable of safely performing the essential function of the job they have been offered.  This helps to decrease work-related injuries, lower worker’s compensation costs, reduces turnover, improves productivity, and lowers accident rates.  Fit for Duty Testing is utilized when an employee is ready to return to work after an injury, illness, surgery, or extended absence. This test will assess the employee’s ability to return to their old position safely and perform the essential function of their job.
